Lent (in as many words)

A Season in 10 Words

Spring once bolstered my Lenten fast, now winter lengthens it.

5 Haiku for a Long Winter’s Lent

The days grow longer
In spring anticipation
Rain keeps us indoors

Winter storms drive off
The first lovely days of spring
I fast in the dark

Hail works violence
On the tender plum blossoms
Will springtime prevail?

Long days of fasting
Become longing for Easter
We pine for the sun

The plum blossoms smile
Swaying in the wind and rain
Sprouts clap tiny fronds
