another day done, ruled by life

did you write today?
blinks my phone insistently
the question must be answered…
to clear the clutter I lie
mark as done

the day is done, but not the writing
or the reading
or the daily lectio
or affectionate moments of presence
the day is done with so many
intentions abandoned
corners cut
opportunities missed
there’s nothing for it but to surrender
what the day was
and was not
and move along
hitting reset on the way by midnight

any luck tomorrow will boast
a different set
of half-truth accomplishments
so none will go
neglected too long
